Starting Up!

I am new to the blogging world, as well as the web design world, and so I felt that this could be an excellent way to learn about 2 different things at once. I am hoping to eventually make a career out of working in freelance web design and/or development, but I know little about it at the moment. My hope with this blog is to share the things that I do learn in hopes of benefiting other beginning developers, such as myself, and perhaps get some insight from others about things that may benefit me further. I hope that this blog will be interesting and helpful to both new and experienced web design hobbyists and professionals. So, for all those learning how to build and maintain web pages or already experienced with it and just wanting to toss out a few tips and pointers, stay tuned for much more to come. I hope you all enjoy, and that everyone can gain a little something from this blog.

  1. How would you recommend that someone get started in web design?

  2. Well, if you aren't sure whether it is for you, one idea might be to get an html book and play around with creating the basic structure and see if it is something you would enjoy. In that case, if you do enjoy it, try to learn all you can about html, xml, and css, then move to bigger and better things. Once you are comfortable, try making your own page. This will give you at least one example to show people when you try to find a job in web design, or something to show clients if you want to work freelance. I personally am just beginning to get into xml and html5, and once I feel more comfortable with that, I plan to create my own site.

  3. I took the CIT151 Beginning Web Development class spring 2011, and really enjoyed it, it taught me a lot about building web pages.

  4. I am taking the CIT151 class this semester, so far it's fun, but like every class, there's alot more work involved than what I thought. I will make it through though. I am looking foreward to looking thru all the class blogs and learning from each and every one of you.

  5. Nice idea for a blog. I took the CIT151 last semester. I did not think that I would like the class but I actually really enjoyed it. Since I have continued working with HTML and have worked on projects at work that include HTML. It is a great skill to have, even with basic knowledge. I find myself constantly looking for new things to try or ways to change how things are displayed. One I learned was the XMP tag for examples (this can display the actual code without the page processing it) and is a great tool for note taking. Again, great idea and I will be following to see if there is anything that I could learn.

  6. Yea, I took CIT 151 in Fall of 2011, and about halfway through the semester I was sold on web design. I love playing with code, but I think actual programming may be a little too complex to keep me interested. Web design allows me to still play with some code, in the form of HTML, XML, CSS, and probably some simple programming languages once I get a bit more familiar, but it also allows me to do more with visual effects and to see the results of my work relatively quickly.
